Desert Link

Finished Desert Link, finally!

This is my first art where I really focused on the background instead of the character. I used to view backgrounds as kind of an annoyance to me, some thing to put behind the character because it's expected of you, but adding a background, especially one that actually has work put into it, adds a sense of legitimacy to it that a plain white background won't do.

A lot of times I see people treat backgrounds as 'extra work', but if you get into the mindset that the backgrounds are a part of the work and just finishing the character is the halfway mark, you will get a lot more enjoyment out of it!

Not that this is as good as my other recent work, with the repetitive textures and the likes (I put a lot of work into the sand, though!), but it is a step towards better backgrounds in my art.

Because backgrounds, when used right, can tell an even greater story than whatever is in the foreground.
